1 Kings3:14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
Long life is independent of any other blessing that the Lord may reward you. It not connected to how much wealth you have accrued; not even any inheritance you have been bequeathed by your parents or guardian, whether they be Royals or commoners. This is the message the Lord Almighty was communicating to Solomon the King even in his deep sleep; The only collateral to long life, the Lord said to Solomon his servant was dependent to his keeping ‘my statutes and my commandments….then I will lengthen thy days.
Riches are not a surety to long and healthy life; but keeping God’s statutes and His commands is.
Psalms 91 :14-16 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”
Setting your Love upon something or someone means that you will not and don’t intend to violate the understanding between you and ‘it’. It means a determination to keep the promises and the boundaries set to protect the relationship or fellowship. It means a deliberate commitment to observing the the decrees that are mutually understood by the parties in play. As a believer, I get to understand the requirements of the Lord as I read through The Bible…
also John 16:13 tells me that; ‘However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come’. No reason to miss the ‘Target’ upon which you ought to set your heart. For this reason of understanding the requirements of the Lord was the Holy Spirit poured in abundance to fill every flesh(humanity).
Then I know where to set my heart. Then I a guarantee that the promises of the Almighty shall abide with me all the days of my life. Above all, He(God) will satisfy me with a long life.
There is only one way to overcome the one who is determined to destroy your life and see your soul perish as early as in your youth- Set your heart to love the Lord and keep His statutes and His commands.
